Autumn is just around the corner and with it comes thoughts of getting comfortable on the couch with a nice hot cup of cocoa and a book that makes your heart race. It's even better if your home alone and it's getting dark. Spooky!
I have been looking for the perfect book challenge and managed to find one that has been floating around on several book blogs I read. It is Carl's RIP Challenge. It sounds like fun.
There are three levels of the challenge to pick from. I’m participating in Peril the First, in which you pick four scary books to read between September 1st and October 31st, 2008. However, you could do Peril the Second and only have to read two books. There is also Peril the Third where you would only have to read one book. I love a challenge with options! Oh and the books can be of any length. So don't feel like you have to pick a book with a billion pages.
Here are the books I will be reading:
- The Traveling Vampire Show - Richard Laymon
- Ghost Hunting: True Stories of Unexplained Phenomena from The Atlantic Paranormal Society - Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson
- Coraline - Neil Gaiman
- House of Leaves - Mark Z. Danielewski
- Duma Key - Stephen King
I know there are five books listed not four. Why? Because two of the books I picked looked like they were going to be very easy reads. I felt like I was cheating! So I decided to add one more for good measure. I mean jeez do you really have to twist my arm to read yet another book!? Nah!
So click here to head on over and join in the fun.

Its never cheating to do with the easy reads, so read on! Even little stories can pack a good creepy wallop! I'm so glad you came across the challenge that I host, it is so much fun to do and I love having new people join in as much as I love seeing people return year after year.
On an unrelated note, love seeing your Pushing Daisies banner on the side. I absolutely cannot wait until that show comes back. I am head over heels in tv crush land for Anna Friel. But actually I think all the characters are great!!!
oh TAPS has a book eh? i should check that out.
You know about my HUUUUGE crush on Steve? Until i saw the episode where he didn't know that the underground Railroad wasn't REALLY a railroad.
I've seen the House of Leaves on a couple of lists now. It doesn't seem to be cheaply available in the UK so I'll be interested to read what people think about it as it looks like it could be worth searching out a copy.
Coraline is on my list too!
I love Coraline! I have it if you want to borrow.
great picks, I really liked Coraline.
nice knitting projects!

I've seen this challenge around and have been meaning to join :)
Enjoy your picks...they sound great!
I've seen The Traveling Vampire Show on some pools and now I'm intrigued! Yay! To think the challenge has yet to start!
Coraline is lovely. Lovely, lovely, creepy, lovely :)
Fab choices! I'm revisiting Coraline for the challenge, it's a great book.
I have House of Leaves on my shelf waiting to be read...and actually I'm surprised at how many of the RIP lists I'm seeing it on...I'll be really interested to see how many people get through it for the challenge - might inspire me to pick it up sooner!
Just wanted to join Carl in saying "Yay Pushing Daisies!" I only discovered the series a couple of weeks ago and am about halfway through watching, but I LOVE it. I love it perhaps even a little more than I loved Dead Like Me...which was a brilliant series.
