Mr. Greenjeans

When the current issue of Knitty.com was posted a certain sweater caught my eye. Not only did it catch my eye it blasted me right back into the 1970's. The sweater is none other than the cute and stylish Mr. Greenjeans. I raced through the designers notes on the pattern thinking she must be around the same age as me and surely the sweater was named after the actor Hugh "Lumpy" Brannum. Who the heck is that you ask? Hugh aka Mr. Green Jeans was the right hand man to Captain Kangaroo (played by Bob Keeshan) on the popular television show, Captain Kangaroo. Sadly the sweater was not designed with a TV show in mind........but for me it sure was a great ride through time.

I am enjoying knitting this sweater so much that I could see myself knitting it again. That is very rare for me. I am using Cascade 220 Hand Painted yarn in colorway # 9922 - David's Eyes. You can just barely make out where I have started the cabling at the bottom of the sweater. The lower picture is a bit darker but shows a small glimpse of a cable peeking through.

I used to watch Captain Kangaroo every days before going to school. I'm pretty sure the name comes from the yarn's colorway name. Certainly whoever named the yarn watched the show too. ;)

Your color choice is perfect! It's looking really good!
